Population of Asaminami-ku used to grow fastest, however in latest data(2018-2019) shows that population increase of Naka-ku finally overtook Asaminami-ku.

Many residential real-estate has been developed in Asaminami-ku, and following that development, population have been increased. Big residential development projects are, for example, Kokoro and Kasugano.

Also, Asaminami-ku has good transportation environment. 2 public transportation(JR(Japan Rail)-Kabe Line and Astram Line) run within Asaminami-ku, and there are highway junction(Hiroshima Interchange).

There’s plan that Astram Line’s going to be expanded to Nishi-ku in late 2020.

Next ward is Nishi-ku. Population of Nishi-ku is decreasing from 2018 to 2019. This is surprising since population of Naka-ku and Saeki-ku,which both next to Nishi-ku, is increasing.

Population of Minami-ku is increasing. Speaking of Minami-ku, 2 big high-rise residential condominium projects had just completed in 2016, one is City Tower Hiroshima(52 stories, 193m) and the other is Grand Cross Tower Hiroshima(46 stories, 163m). Minami-ku is very close location to Naka-ku(Naka-ku has biggest shopping and dining areas in Hiroshima called Kamiyacho, and Hacchobori), so this population increase seems fair enough.

Asakita-ku is located most northern area in Hiroshima city. Decrease of population keeps going on in this ward.

Naka-ku gained population the most among 8 wards from 2018 to 2019. In Hiroshima city, Naka-ku is the biggest commercia area but in terms of influx of population, Asaminami-ku had been strongest. However, recent data shows Naka-ku overtook Asaminami-ku in terms of increase of population. There will be big project coming up, for example Hitoto Hiroshima The Tower(53stories, 178m) and some under planning.

Saeki-ku keep gaining population influx. In 2018, Japanese retail giant AEON has just opened its first outlet mall. It is located in Saeki-ku and it’s called THE OUTLET HIROSHIMA. Also, adjacent to this outlet mall, residential areas have been developed.

Higashi-ku lost its population last 2 years. north side of Hiroshima station is in Higashi-ku and
the periphery of Hiroshima station is under developing right now. Buildings of Hiroshima Station are supposed to rebuild in 2025.
