Let’s look at each ward by the map below.
Then, let’s see each ward’s population by the figure below as of 1st January 2019.
Above figure shows that in terms of population biggest ward is Asaminami-ku and smallest one is Aki-ku.
Now let’s see changes of each ward’s populaion in descending order.
1. Population of Asaminami-ku
Population of Asaminami-ku used to grow fastest, however in latest data(2018-2019) shows that population increase of Naka-ku finally overtook Asaminami-ku.
Many residential real-estate has been developed in Asaminami-ku, and following that development, population have been increased. Big residential development projects are, for example, Kokoro and Kasugano.
Also, Asaminami-ku has good transportation environment. 2 public transportation(JR(Japan Rail)-Kabe Line and Astram Line) run within Asaminami-ku, and there are highway junction(Hiroshima Interchange).
There’s plan that Astram Line’s going to be expanded to Nishi-ku in late 2020.
2.Population of Nishi-ku
Next ward is Nishi-ku. Population of Nishi-ku is decreasing from 2018 to 2019. This is surprising since population of Naka-ku and Saeki-ku,which both next to Nishi-ku, is increasing.
3.Population of Minami-ku
Population of Minami-ku is increasing. Speaking of Minami-ku, 2 big high-rise residential condominium projects had just completed in 2016, one is City Tower Hiroshima(52 stories, 193m) and the other is Grand Cross Tower Hiroshima(46 stories, 163m). Minami-ku is very close location to Naka-ku(Naka-ku has biggest shopping and dining areas in Hiroshima called Kamiyacho, and Hacchobori), so this population increase seems fair enough.
4. Population of Asakita-ku
Asakita-ku is located most northern area in Hiroshima city. Decrease of population keeps going on in this ward.
5. Population of Naka-ku
Naka-ku gained population the most among 8 wards from 2018 to 2019. In Hiroshima city, Naka-ku is the biggest commercia area but in terms of influx of population, Asaminami-ku had been strongest. However, recent data shows Naka-ku overtook Asaminami-ku in terms of increase of population. There will be big project coming up, for example Hitoto Hiroshima The Tower(53stories, 178m) and some under planning.
6. Population of Saeki-ku
Saeki-ku keep gaining population influx. In 2018, Japanese retail giant AEON has just opened its first outlet mall. It is located in Saeki-ku and it’s called THE OUTLET HIROSHIMA. Also, adjacent to this outlet mall, residential areas have been developed.
7. Population of Higashi-ku
Higashi-ku lost its population last 2 years. north side of Hiroshima station is in Higashi-ku and
the periphery of Hiroshima station is under developing right now. Buildings of Hiroshima Station are supposed to rebuild in 2025.
8. Population of Aki-ku
